Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931) was one of the foremost painters and graphic artists in Finland in the late 1800's and in the early 1900's.

His former castle-like studio home is located at Tarvaspää on a hill facing the Laajalahti bay. The beautiful seaview and the surrounding park create an enchanting  setting. The Tarvaspää villa was Gallen-Kallela's summer house for many years before the studio was completed in 1913. Now this charming historic building serves as cafeteria and restaurant for the thousands of visitors who attend the various art exhibitions. Tarvaspää is open all year round, seven days a week in the summer and from Tuesday to Sunday in the other seasons.

In the summer (from May 15th to August 31st), the cafeteria is open from 10 to 20 from Tuesday to Thursday and from 10 to 18 from Friday to Monday.

In the winter season (from September 1st  to May 14th), the cafeteria is closed on Mondays. From Tuesday to Saturday, the cafeteria opens at 10 and closes at 16 hrs. On Sundays the closing time is at 17 hrs.

The cafeteria has a wide range of refreshments and light meals to offer. There is a good selection of traditional Finnish pastry, some of them baked daily at Tarvaspää. The traditional cinnamon bun korvapuusti is baked every day and is famous for its taste. The Tosca Cake is one of María Cristina's specialties as well as the Chilean empanadas. Why Chilean? Because she is originally from Chile although the two decades she has lived in Finland, married to a Finn, has made her thoroughly acquainted with Finnish cuisine, too.

The Tarvaspää cafeteria and charter restaurant is operated by María Cristina Talvitie and her staff.

The restaurant can serve Finnish, Continental, International or Latin American specialties of the highest standard, by previous agreement. Everything is prepared with the best possible raw materials, no processed food products are used. The prices are not the cheapest because no compromises are made with the quality.

By advance appointment, any breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner menu can be arranged to meet your taste and requirements.

Up to 90 persons can be catered in the two dining rooms outside the normal opening hours. The big dining room can be reserved also during the normal opening hours. The restaurant has the full licence for alcoholic beverages.

Tarvaspää has its own spacious parking lot where you can park your car without having to worry about parking meters.

Tarvaspää is situated alongside the Helsinki-Turku motorway (Turunväylä, see the map) just after the borderline between the Cities of Helsinki and Espoo, on a tree-covered hill overlooking the sea. The entrance road departs from the Ringroad One (Kehä I).
